Mish Mash - co-direction and editorial
August 2021
Kingston University, BA Graphic Design
A celebration of unconventional approaches.
Mish Mash was the Kingston Graphic Design 2021 Degree Show, which took place on the 6th to the 8th of August 2021 at Truman Brewery, Shoreditch. After our university experience was altered by covid-19,our degree show was our opportunity to celebrate the
unconventional processes we had adapted, exploring the
relationship between physical and digital practice and
proudly introducing our class of new designers to the world.
I co-directed the show alongside Ellie Bunyan, mobilising our team and securing sponsorship from studios such as Turner Duckworth and Johnson Banks. From the initial brainstorms, it became clear that our
theme could be a positive interpretation of the disruption
lockdowns had had. We asked every student to submit
letters of the alphabet, from which we built our own
custom typeface, incorporating a piece of each student.
As well as co-director, I also took on the role of leading the
publication team, co-ordinating the design, print and
delivery. To carry on the Mish Mash theme, we settled on an unbound publication, made up of individual square
cards that could be mished and mashed together to the
visitors liking as they worked their way around the space.
The cards included information on each student, as well as an
introduction to the Mish Mash concept
and information about the space.
A rubber x-band was provided as a
temporary binding at the exit.
Some extra elements I worked on were building a cohesive and exciting instagram feed, to create a buzz and following
around the event. We also organised a few more physical interactions throughout the show, including live screen
printing and lino printed envelopes for the invites.
Thanks to the dedication and talents of our hard-working team, we had a successful show celebrating all things Mish Mash.
