‘We show the many ways nature seeps into our memories and subconscious, even in urban environments, allowing us to collectively contemplate what we notice and what gives us meaning in our everyday lives.’

What We Notice celebrates the work created through the community art workshops Looking at Everyday Life, where people are invited to connect with their environment through writing, drawing and painting. These workshops were created and facilitated by artists Babette van Gerwen and William Kennedy at St Margaret’s House.

To conclude their series of workshops, the pair put on an exhibition, showcasing the artwork produced during the sessions. We worked together to create a small zine, encapsulating the breadth of work created and to form a guide to complement the physical displays.

Each of the 9 sessions had a theme, including water, mushrooms, people and birds. Each theme was given a spread, combining physical artwork and the session prompts in a playful yet reflective way. To allow the artwork to shine through, I kept layouts relatively minimal, showcasing the textures and shapes, and choosing quotes that best complimented them.
